Chef Yūji Wakiya

A native of Sapporo, Japan, Chef Wakiya has traveled the globe showcasing his virtuosity while sharing with the world the virtues of the Japanese philosophy of harmony that seeks to strike a unique balance of flavor in cuisine. That other Japanese virtue — honor — is also a province of Chef Wakiya in his remarkable career; it has seen him exploring and even fusing various ethnic cuisines during his globetrotting culinary travails. It was his honor, as Chief Chef of Chinese cuisine at Yokohama’s Pan Pacific Hotel to serve the Japanese Crown Prince and his wife. In 2014 he received the prestigious Yellow Ribbon Medal from the Japanese government — an honor indeed!
