Previously a guitarist in China’s first touring thrashcore band, Chef Tsao became a guitar sculpture hero by sculpting an all-sugar Gibson Explorer Guitar to mark his decision to embark on the path of culinary arts. Chef Tsao has journeyed from the very basics of the restaurant business to Asian fusion mastery. He started in the hard way at the bottom of the food chain by working as a lowly dishwasher at an unmemorable restaurant. He then received formal cooking chops at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. Chef Tsao’s expertise in crafting pastry showpieces eventually propelled him down the path to chef-hood, with him finally landing in Mira Sushi & Izakaya, where he created a delightful menu fusing Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and American cuisines. In March 2014, Chef Tsao appeared on Food Network’s “Beat Bobby Flay.” His Beef Bulgogi Tacos made him the only chef that prevailed through the entire season over Flay.
